Speakers are transducers that convert electromagnetic waves into sound waves.
Speakers ensure that sounds that are recorded with a microphone or signals that are output from peripherals are made audible. The quality of the speaker is very important in order to produce the most accurate possible reproduction of the incoming signal. This can be checked on the frequency characteristic of the speaker. Active speakers have a built-in amplifier that is directly tuned to the power of the speaker cone (= cone-shaped membrane that causes air vibrations during movement). These types of speakers are ideal for smaller configurations. Passive speakers contain a cone in a specially designed housing, but must be controlled via a separate amplifier. This system is always used for large setups (festivals, large banquet halls, ...).
